Mississippi University for Women Volleyball to Pause Season in 2024

Mississippi University for Women Athletics will suspend its volleyball program for the 2024 season, with plans to resume competition in fall 2027, the school announced Tuesday.

Director of Athletics Buddy Foster said the decision was made after a thorough review of the circumstances that significantly depleted the team’s roster. Foster expressed regret over the interruption, stating, “The interruption of the volleyball program is not the outcome we wanted. Unfortunately, a combination of circumstances significantly depleted our roster. We looked at every possible option and carefully considered the situation before determining that a one-season pause was the best course of action.”

New head coach Donna Day, who started her role Aug. 1, will work to rebuild the team ahead of the 2027 season. Day brings 17 years of coaching experience, including 12 years as a head coach at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, according to the school.
