Mississippi State’s Valincius Named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State pitcher Tomas Valincius was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week following his seven-inning shutout against fifth-ranked Arkansas on Saturday, according to the Southeastern Conference.
The sophomore southpaw’s start was a career best, and he matched his season-high with seven strikeouts. Valincius shares the weekly honor with Auburn’s Jake Marciano.
In five starts this season, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound pitcher from Lockport, Illinois, has a 4-0 record, a 1.30 earned run average, 33 strikeouts and eight walks over 27 2/3 innings. Opposing teams are batting just .194 against him this season, the school said.
Valincius is the first Mississippi State player to earn a weekly conference award this season and the first MSU pitcher to be named SEC Pitcher of the Week since Evan Siary received the honor on May 12, 2025.
The sixth-ranked Bulldogs return home Tuesday to host Jackson State at 4 p.m. Fans can follow the team on social media by searching ‘HailStateBB’ on X, Facebook and Instagram, or visit www.HailState.com for updates.
