Mississippi State’s Faircloth, Barbary Named All-SEC Softball Honorees
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mississippi State softball players Alyssa Faircloth and Nadia Barbary earned All-SEC honors, the league announced Friday. Faircloth was named to the second team and received the SEC Newcomer of the Year award, marking the first time a Bulldog pitcher has won the honor.
Faircloth led the SEC with 231 strikeouts during the regular season, including 105 in conference play. She broke the Mississippi State single-season record for strikeouts at the SEC Tournament, reaching 58 on the year. Her total ranks third in program history, just 15 shy of the school record. She was two strikeouts away from the MSU record for strikeouts in SEC play.
The freshman held opponents to a .188 batting average, which would rank among the top 10 in school history. She also posted the highest strikeouts per seven innings mark in school history at 10.73, more than 2.00 above the previous record.
Barbary led Mississippi State in hits and RBIs during the regular season. The senior is one hit shy of reaching 200 career hits. In conference play, she posted a .319 batting average and hit four home runs. She ranked third among SEC third basemen in OPS during the regular season.
It is Barbary’s second All-SEC selection. She ranks among the top 10 in MSU history in doubles, homers, total bases, and RBIs. The Douglasville, Georgia, native led the team in game-winning RBIs and recorded 13 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games.
Mississippi State has earned multiple All-SEC honors in three consecutive years. Faircloth is the program’s first Newcomer of the Year and the first major conference award winner for the Bulldogs since Mia Davidson was named 2018 SEC Freshman of the Year.
