Mississippi State rallies for 4-1 soccer victory over Oklahoma State

Mississippi State soccer overcame an early goal to defeat Oklahoma State 4-1 Thursday evening in Starkville. The Bulldogs, who had not trailed in 2026 until the third minute, responded with four goals in the first half.

Head coach Kevin O’Brien praised his team’s resilience. “I love the comeback. I was proud of their response to adversity,” he said. “They played great soccer from start to finish, created goals, and made rotations that paid off.”

Freshman Eden Nicholson opened her account with her first career goal in the 18th minute. Kati Anne Shepherd delivered a cross, and Nicholson volleyed it past the goalkeeper. Five minutes later, Chiara Tappe scored from midfield on a free kick, and Hailey Johnson headed in a rebound just before halftime. Late in the half, Reganne Morris scored on a breakaway, and Kyli Switalski converted a penalty kick after a VAR review.

The four goals in the first half marked the fastest sequence of goals for Mississippi State this season. The Bulldogs outshot Oklahoma State 11-4 overall, with goalkeeper Jenny Harrison not tested after the initial goal. The second half was scoreless, with only three combined shots.
