Mississippi State Hosts No. 25 South Carolina for Senior Day Before Facing No. 1 Georgia

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State women’s tennis hosts No. 25 South Carolina on April 9 for its final home match of the season, followed by a trip to face No. 1 Georgia on April 11, according to athletic communications.

The Bulldogs enter the week after losing matches against Ole Miss and LSU. State fell 4-3 to Ole Miss on April 2 and was shut out 4-0 at LSU on April 4. The match against South Carolina also serves as Senior Day, honoring graduate Alessia Tagliente for her contributions to the program.

Tagliente has recorded 33 singles wins and 37 doubles wins in her career. She has received multiple honors, including the 2025 ITA Southern Regional Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award and the Blue Gray Classic Sportsmanship Award. She also earned SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honors and ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Mississippi State is ranked No. 55 in the latest ITA team poll. The Bulldogs have three doubles teams nationally ranked, led by Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz at No. 11. Gianna Oboniye and Kempenaers-Pocz are ranked No. 31, while Athina Pitta and Oboniye sit at No. 37.

South Carolina comes into the match after a 4-3 victory over Kentucky. The Gamecocks defeated Mississippi State 4-2 last season, but the Bulldogs’ last series win was in 2015 with a 4-3 victory in Columbia. Georgia will play Alabama on April 9 before hosting Mississippi State to conclude the regular season. The Bulldogs are seeking their first series win over Georgia; last year, Georgia won 4-0 in Starkville.
