Mississippi State Falls to No. 15 Florida in Women’s Tennis
Gainesville, Fla. — Mississippi State women’s tennis fell 4-1 to No. 15 Florida on Saturday morning, according to athletic communications from the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point after wins on courts one and two. Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz defeated Xinyi Nong and Nikola Daubnerova 6-4, while Athina Pitta and Gianna Oboniye topped Brooke Black and Valery Gynina 7-5. Florida’s Lucie Pawlak and India Houghton won the third doubles match 6-2 over Emma Cohen and Mia Robinson.
In singles play, Florida secured four victories to clinch the match. Gianna Oboniye was leading her match against India Houghton when play was halted. Valery Gynina defeated Thessy Ntondele Zinga in three sets. Chiara Di Genova and Gabia Paskauskas also split their matches, with Di Genova dropping her third set after winning the first two. Florida’s Brooke Black and Lucie Pawlak earned straight-set wins over their opponents.
Mississippi State will travel to Oxford to face in-state rival Ole Miss on April 2 at 4 p.m. The next match will be available via live stats, according to the school’s athletic website.
