Mississippi State Faces Top-10 SEC Road Tests at Texas A&M and LSU

Mississippi State’s men’s tennis team travels this weekend for a key SEC stretch, facing No. 9 Texas A&M on Friday and No. 7 LSU on Sunday. The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a six-match winning streak and aim to keep momentum against two top-10 foes.

On Friday, the Bulldogs will meet Texas A&M at 6 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Mississippi State trails the all-time series 7-13 but recently defeated the Aggies 6-1 in Starkville. The Aggies feature three ranked singles players, including No. 30 Theo Papamalamis.

Sunday’s matchup against LSU begins at noon in Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs have a 24-36-1 record against the Tigers and have won the last three meetings. LSU is led by No. 24 Erik Arutiunian and No. 29 Olaf Pieczkowski. Mississippi State coach Matt Roberts holds a 5-9 record against Texas A&M.

Mississippi State holds several notable rankings and player achievements. Petar Jovanovic is ranked No. 6 nationally in singles and holds the program record for combined singles and doubles wins. The team has six players ranked in the ITA singles rankings and boasts a successful doubles duo of Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez, ranked No. 4 nationally.

The Bulldogs have secured 25 wins in 2025, tying the program record set in 1979. They have also earned their first top-five victory this season by beating No. 4 Stanford. The team’s overall success includes conference victories over ranked opponents and a strong start to the season with four consecutive road sweeps.
