Mississippi College’s Miller Earns GSC Field Athlete of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi College senior James David Miller has been named the Gulf South Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Miller earned the honor after a record-setting performance at the UAB Invitational, where he finished third in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.52 meters (60 feet, 9.25 inches). The throw marked a program first, as Miller became the first Choctaw to surpass the 60-foot threshold in the indoor weight throw.
The performance moved him to the top of the NCAA Division II national rankings and the South Region standings. Within the GSC, Miller leads the conference by more than three feet. This is his first weekly award of the season and adds to Mississippi College’s list of conference honors during the 2026 indoor campaign.
The Choctaws continue their indoor season this weekend as they prepare for postseason competition later this month.
