Mississippi College’s Hodson, Chambers Named GSC Men’s Track Athletes of the Week
Mississippi College athletes Gabe Hodson and Schyler Chambers received Gulf South Conference weekly awards for men’s outdoor track and field, announced by the conference Tuesday.
Hodson, a senior, set a personal-best and school-record in the 800-meter run at the Joe Walker Invitational. He finished second with an NCAA provisional time of 1:47.60, which ranks first in the GSC and third in Division II, according to the conference.
Chambers, a freshman, won the triple jump among Division I competitors at the same meet. He recorded a personal-best and school-record mark of 15.49 meters (50 feet, 10 inches), also an NCAA provisional mark. He now leads the GSC and ranks fifth nationally in DII for the event, conference officials said.
Other weekly nominees included Jaiden Young of UAH, Erwan Rostan of Christian Brothers, Stephen Clark of Lee, Jeremiah Fails of Montevallo, and Caden Meeks of Trevecca Nazarene in the track category. In field events, nominees included Ben Rouse of UAH, Rodney Ngezimani of Lee, and Garrett Ross of Mississippi College.
The conference has recognized athletes weekly since March 11, with previous winners from schools such as Montevallo, Lee, West Alabama, and Mississippi College. The awards highlight top performances during the outdoor season.
