Mississippi College Tennis Opens 2026 Season with Exhibitions Against Jacksonville State

Jacksonville, Ala. — Mississippi College men’s and women’s tennis teams opened the 2026 spring season Thursday with exhibition matches against Jacksonville State at the Jax State Tennis Courts.

The men’s team lost 6–1 to Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks swept doubles play to gain an early lead and won five of six singles matches. The Choctaws’ only point came from Florian Walcher, who defeated Matei Palcau in straight sets, 6–3, 6–3, at No. 6 singles. Several players, including Mattia Ricci at No. 2 singles and Simon Pfau at No. 4, extended their matches to third sets before falling.

The women’s team was narrowly defeated 4–3. Mississippi College gained an early advantage in doubles, with Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett winning 6–3 at No. 1. In singles, the Choctaws secured victories from Rune Van Wyk at No. 3, Anna Hudson at No. 4, and Stockett at No. 5, all in straight sets. Jacksonville State clinched the overall match by winning at Nos. 1, 2, and 6 singles.

Mississippi College plans to use these exhibitions as preparation for the upcoming regular season, aiming to build on the competitive performances of both squads.
