Mississippi College Men’s Basketball Falls to Union in Second Half Comeback

JACKSON, Tenn. — Mississippi College lost to Union University 74-68 Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Despite a 49-point second half, the Choctaws couldn’t overcome Union’s dominant play in the paint and early lead, according to game reports.

Mississippi College opened the scoring with a jumper from DeMarcus Powe at 19:26 but Union responded quickly. Led by Casey Williams, who scored 10 points including a late first-half dunk, Union took control. Union’s defense forced five steals, helping them outscore the Choctaws 37-19 in the first half.

In the second half, Mississippi College rallied with Powe hitting a jumper and a three-pointer early to cut the deficit to 39-24. Union’s Terrence Ringo Jr. responded with free throws, maintaining their lead. A late third-quarter three by Avaughn Johnson brought the score to 63-54, but Union held on.

Josh Holman led Mississippi College with 14 points, while Powe added 13 and Johnson scored 19 with 13 rebounds. Despite Holman’s late layup and Johnson’s efforts, Union’s Mason McBride sealed the victory with two free throws in the final seconds.

The Choctaws will face Christian Brothers on Saturday at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tennessee. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., according to school officials.
