Mississippi College Baseball Tops Christian Brothers 3-2 in Series Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Caleb Peterson pitched 8.2 innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs, leading Mississippi College to a 3-2 victory over Christian Brothers on Thursday. The win marked the sixth Gulf South Conference series-opening victory for the Choctaws this season, improving their record to 22-14 overall and 15-7 in conference play.

Peterson (4-3) faced 32 batters, striking out 11 and throwing 71 strikes on 101 pitches. Blake Gollott earned his third save of the season by retiring the final batter on four pitches. Mississippi College managed four hits, including three doubles, and scored early in the game to secure the win.

The Choctaws took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Cade Gadman’s double play. They added two runs in the third, highlighted by Jake LaRocca’s two-RBI double that scored JT Thigpen and Will Langston. LaRocca, from Lake Charles, Louisiana, recorded his third multi-RBI game of the season. Thigpen contributed with a double, a walk, and a run scored, while Langston reached base three times via hit-by-pitch and also scored.

Christian Brothers cut into the deficit in the seventh, scoring two unearned runs on two errors. The Buccaneers were held without a hit over the final two innings as Mississippi College preserved its lead and the victory. The teams are scheduled to continue the series with a doubleheader Friday starting at noon.
