Millsaps Women’s Tennis Ties Christian Brothers, Falls to Northwest Mississippi

MEMPHSIS, Tenn. — The Millsaps College women’s tennis team played a pair of matches over the weekend, finishing with a tie against Christian Brothers University and a loss to Northwest Mississippi Community College.

In Saturday’s match against Christian Brothers, the teams played a unique format due to the number of players involved. Christian Brothers forfeited doubles, giving Millsaps an early 1-0 lead. The singles portion was tightly contested, with Millsaps winning matches via forfeits on courts 4 and 5, resulting in a 3-3 tie. Christian Brothers claimed singles victories on courts 1, 2, and 3.

Results from Saturday included Valerie Neumann defeating Riley McClain 8-2, Neha Dandu beating Malakie Smith 8-4, and Fernanda Galvez winning against Skylar Spinks 8-3. Millsaps also benefited from forfeits by Graham Bella-Bennett and Virginia Trible.

The following day, the team faced No. 20 Northwest Mississippi Community College and suffered a 7-0 defeat. The Warriors claimed wins in doubles on courts 1 and 2, and in singles on all five courts. Notable results included Angela Ortiz-Sanchez defeating Riley McClain 6-0, 6-3, and Lauren Blanco beating Malakie Smith 6-1, 6-3.
