Millsaps Women’s Basketball Dominates Rhodes in 83-62 Win
The Millsaps women’s basketball team beat Rhodes College 83-62 Friday at the Hangar Dome, thanks in part to 15 three-pointers. The Majors improved to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Senior Elyse Warren led the way, recording 14 points and 22 rebounds. She became the first player in school history to reach both 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds, achieving the milestone with a rebound in the first quarter, according to school officials.
The Majors dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lynx 48-29. Juniors Garin Freeman and Tia Anderson each scored 21 points. Anderson posted a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Freeman contributed eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Bailey Johnson added nine points, four assists, and two steals, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Rhodes opened the game with a 5-2 lead before Millsaps took control. The teams traded runs in the first half, with Millsaps closing the second quarter on an 11-2 run to lead 38-33 at halftime. The Lynx responded in the third, pulling ahead 44-41 before Millsaps regained momentum with a late 3-pointer from Freeman and layups from Anderson and Freeman to lead 54-49 entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Millsaps pulled away, outscoring Rhodes 29-13. Key contributions included multiple three-pointers from Anderson and Johnson, as well as consecutive threes from Freeman. The Majors finished with seven three-pointers in the final period and secured the victory.
