Millsaps Softball Sweeps Lyon College in Doubleheader

The Millsaps softball team defeated Lyon College twice Saturday at Howard and Mary House Field. The Majors won the first game 7-0 and the second 7-2, highlighted by their offensive production and solid pitching, according to team sources.

In the opener, junior Julie Amacher pitched four scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and striking out five. The Chelsea, Alabama, native faced 14 batters and issued no walks, earning her third win of the season. Offensively, Brynn Arena and Allana Vasquez contributed two hits each, with Vasquez doubling twice and driving in two runs.

Millsaps scored early and often. In the first inning, Ella Morgan Sears singled, and Vasquez doubled, bringing in two runs. Freshman Liza Gregg reached on an error, allowing Vasquez to score. The team added three more runs over the next few innings, culminating with Arena’s home run in the fourth. The Majors maintained their lead and secured the victory.

In the second game, Vasquez pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Hailey Marange pitched five innings, allowing two runs and striking out two. Offensively, Gregg and Briscoe each drove in two runs, with Gregg also hitting a solo home run in the final inning to clinch the win.

The Majors are set to host Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
