Millsaps Baseball Sweeps Hardin-Simmons and North Park in Saturday Doubleheader

The Millsaps College baseball team secured a pair of wins Saturday at Twenty Field, beating Hardin-Simmons 16-1 and North Park 12-2 in seven-inning games.

In the first game, Millsaps collected 15 hits, including five doubles and a home run. Junior Wesley Grant and sophomore Wes Carr both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Grant drove in three runs, scored three times, and added a walk and stolen base. Carr scored twice and drew two walks. Freshman Hudson Moberly and senior EJ Ousley also contributed offensively, each going 2-for-4. Ousley hit a home run, while Moberly had two RBIs and a double.

Senior John Montour pitched a complete game, allowing just one run over seven innings, striking out three and facing 24 batters. Millsaps took control early, with sophomore Carston Williams singling in the second inning. Thomas Temple’s RBI single and Grant’s two-run double helped the team build a 3-0 lead after two innings. The offense continued in the fourth, with senior Layne Cross doubling and Ousley’s three-run homer pushing the lead to 8-0.

The Majors added two runs in the fifth, highlighted by Carr’s double that drove in two. Moberly’s double in the sixth brought in two more runs, and Carr’s single and Williams’s double finished the scoring, resulting in a 16-1 victory.

In the second game, Millsaps again showed offensive strength, scoring five runs in the third inning. Carr opened the scoring with a home run in the second. The team’s offense was highlighted by a double from Thomas and a triple from freshman Dominic Mendieta. Senior Sam Thomas added a two-RBI single, giving Millsaps a 6-1 lead. They continued to score in the sixth, capitalizing on North Park errors, and finished with a 12-2 win after seven innings.

Freshmen pitchers Cam Cressend and Fred Fields combined to hold North Park to four hits over seven innings, striking out six batters. Millsaps’s next game is Tuesday against Alma College, with game time set for 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
