Michael James Shares SWAC Newcomer of the Week Honor with Alabama A&M’s Koron Davis
Mississippi Valley State University’s Michael James has been named SWAC Newcomer of the Week, sharing the honor with Alabama A&M’s Koron Davis. This marks the fifth time in 16 weeks that James has received the award, according to the conference.
James, a junior guard from Byhalia, Mississippi, played a key role in ending the Delta Devils’ losing streak. With less than five seconds remaining in the game against Texas Southern, he stole the ball and scored a layup to give Valley a 72-71 victory on Senior Night.
The Meridian Community College transfer led the team in several categories, including free throw percentage at 92.9% (13 of 14), minutes per game at 39.6, points at 21.0, field goals made at 7.3, free throws at 4.3, assists at 3.7, three-pointers at 2.0, and steals at 1.7. He also set a season-high with eight rebounds at Grambling State and averaged 4.7 rebounds over a three-game weekend.
The Green and White face Arkansas-Pine Bluff next, with a 5 p.m. game scheduled Saturday in the Natural State. Fans can follow the team on social media through their official accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
