Michael James Earns SWAC Newcomer of the Week for Fourth Time

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball player Michael James has been named SWAC Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season, the conference announced Monday. The junior guard from Byhalia, Mississippi, averaged 30 points per game over the past week.

James shot 50% from the field, making 23 of 46 attempts, and led the team in scoring, field goal percentage, and steals. He scored a season-high 12 points on 12-of-21 shooting against Alcorn State and recorded four steals against Jackson State. He also added nine rebounds and a quarter of an assist in the recent games.

He transferred from Meridian Community College and has been a key offensive weapon for the Delta Devils. MVSU will travel to Huntsville on Saturday to face Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. in their next game.
