Meyer’s Grand Slam Spurs Mississippi Valley Past Alcorn 15-7
JACKSON, Miss. — Aiden Meyer’s grand slam in the eighth inning helped Mississippi Valley State secure a 15-7 victory over Alcorn State on Sunday at Braddy Field. The Diamond Devils racked up 12 hits and drew 11 walks in the game, with three innings featuring double-digit runs, according to the team.
Mississippi Valley, now 2-7 overall, remains winless in SWAC play. Alcorn, which fell to 1-10, leads the all-time series 166-97-1, though the Devils have won five straight against the Braves.
Meyer’s big hit in the eighth widened the lead to 12-5. Earlier, he drove in five RBIs with a double and his grand slam. Israel Ramos led the hit parade, going 3-for-6 with three singles, a run scored, and an RBI. Jace Jones threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three batters.
Stephen Landaz contributed two RBIs, a walk, a stolen base, and was hit by a pitch. Kendall Brookins added three RBIs, including two on a double and another after being hit by a pitch. Closer Kobe Ladd finished the game with a perfect ninth inning, extending his scoreless streak to 4.2 innings this season, with the only run charged being unearned.
