Madison Francis Earns Multiple SEC Postseason Honors

Madison Francis has been recognized with multiple postseason honors by the Southeastern Conference, the league announced Tuesday. The freshman was named to both the SEC All-Defensive and All-Freshman teams.

Francis has averaged 13.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists per game this season, according to the SEC. Her performance improved during conference play, where she averaged 13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists per game.

She is the only freshman to make this season’s All-Defensive Team and the only underclassman on the list. Francis is the first freshman since 2020 to earn SEC All-Defensive honors and the first Bulldog freshman since 2009 to do so, the SEC said.

Francis’s shot-blocking ability drew nationwide attention. She leads the nation with 84 total blocks and has rejected at least one shot in 28 games this season, the most of any player nationally. She has recorded three or more blocks in 16 games, ranking second in the country and leading the SEC. Four times she has surpassed six blocks in a game, the most of any player this season.

The SEC noted Francis ranks second among league rookies in points and rebounds and third in steals per game. The Bulldogs will start postseason play in the SEC Tournament Wednesday, March 4, against the 12th-seeded Florida Gators at 12:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
