Lauryn Roebuck Homers as Southwest Mississippi Softball Falls to Co-Lin
Chuck Barnes reports that Southwest Mississippi Softball faced Co-Lin in Wesson on Tuesday, April 21, during the Coca Cola Classic. The Lady Bears lost game one 3-1 and game two 11-2.
Allie Ladnier pitched all of game one for Southwest, striking out five in six innings. She allowed three runs on seven hits. The game was close, with each team recording seven hits. Southwest’s only run came on a single by Corin Talbot in the seventh inning. Jana Phillips led the team with two hits, and five players, including Talbot, Ladnier, Alexis Dejean, Mary Claire Salley, and Lauryn Roebuck, each had one hit. Salley doubled in the game.
Game two was more lopsided, with Co-Lin winning 11-2. Tristan Allen hit a solo homer in the first inning, her 18th of the season. She also drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly that scored Presleigh Atwood. Allen and Dejean were the only Lady Bears with hits; Allen’s was a home run, and Dejean doubled.
Ballard Kraft started on the mound for Southwest in game two and took the loss. Mary Claire Salley pitched 2.1 innings, recording two strikeouts, while Tye Boone pitched the final 1.1 innings. The Lady Bears, now 27-15 overall and 14-12 in conference, are scheduled to host Northeast on Saturday, April 25.
