Jones splits MACCC doubleheader at Northwest with 9-1 and 2-1 games

SENATOBIA — The No. 3 Jones County Bobcats split their MACCC-opening doubleheader at Northwest on Friday. Jones won the first game 9-1 before losing the second 2-1.

The Bobcats are now 22-5 overall, while the Rangers stand at 9-8. Jones has won 23 of the past 26 meetings against Northwest, with all three losses occurring in Senatobia.

Jones hosts East Central on Tuesday, March 10, at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader. Tickets are $8 online at jcbobcats.com/tickets or $10 at the gate. The games will stream at jcbobcats.com/watch.

In the first game, Jones out-hit Northwest 17-2. Mabry Eason went 4-for-4 and Makynlee Dickerson was 3-for-4. Dickerson’s two-run single in the second inning put the Bobcats ahead. Chloe Jenkins hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot, in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-1. Madison Sawyer (9-1) pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on two hits.

The second game was a pitcher’s duel, with Eason homering in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. Northwest scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Sela Mancini. Breelyn Cain, the losing pitcher, went 6.1 innings, yielding four hits. Meredith Dearman pitched a complete game for Northwest, allowing one run on five hits.

Tate led Jones with two of the team’s four hits in the second game.
