Jones Softball Opens Season with Two Run-Rule Wins Over Bishop State
ELLISVILLE — The No. 4 Jones College softball team started its season with two dominant victories over Bishop State, winning 10-2 and 10-0 in five-inning games Monday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
In the opener, Marlee Dampeer and Mary Kimble Price each hit their first collegiate home runs. Claire Andersen led five Bobcats with multiple hits, going 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot. Addy Shorter delivered a walk-off, two-run single to end the game early. Jones took a 2-1 lead after three innings and scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win.
Breelyn Cain pitched four innings, striking out four and allowing just one run on two hits. The Bobcats combined for 20 runs on 22 hits and limited Bishop State to one earned run with 12 strikeouts.
In the second game, Dampeer and Price each hit two-run home runs to lead a six-run fourth inning. Freshmen Chloe Jenkins, Logan Mansur, and Fairley Hall also contributed hits. Madison Sawyer pitched four innings, surrendering one hit and striking out six before Anna Grace Whitehead finished the game.
The team will travel to Panama City, Florida, Feb. 6-7 for the PCB JUCO Softball Showdown at the Publix Sports Park, according to school officials.
