Jones College women’s tennis team beats East Central 7-2
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — The Jones College women’s tennis team defeated East Central 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Bobcats improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Jones won all three doubles matches. Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Theresa Emelio of Australia edged Ivanna De Gregorio and Shana Mao 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. Camila Piquín and Maria Martinez, both from Argentina, defeated Isabella Estrada Avila and Samantha Boykin 8-1 in No. 2 doubles. Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County beat Cecilia Burroughs and Aaliyah Coghlan 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Martinez defeated Avila 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles, and Porcello topped Boykin 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 singles. Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven defeated Burroughs 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles, and Emily Rogers of West Jones blanked Coghlan 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles. De Gregorio beat Piquín 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles, while Mao defeated Clayton 6-0, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
Jones is scheduled to play at Hinds Community College on Thursday at 2 p.m.
