Jones College Tennis team remains undefeated in conference play for seventh straight year
Fulton, Miss. — The Jones College men’s tennis team extended its winning streak with a 9-0 victory over Itawamba Community College on Tuesday at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts. The Bobcats are now 13-0 overall and finished MACCC play at 9-0.
Jones has won 92 consecutive regular-season conference matches and has gone undefeated in league play for seven straight years. The team’s last conference loss was on Feb. 14, 2019.
The Bobcats are set to conclude the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m. in Meridian against No. 12 Wallace State-Hanceville. They will also host the women’s Region 23 Tournament from April 9-11 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
In doubles play against Itawamba, Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Camila Piquín led the way with an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles. Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Caroline Kilpatrick from Brookhaven and Emily Rogers from West Jones claimed an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Piquín defeated Agostina Pizarro 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1. Clayton dominated Vazquez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Theresa Emelio of Australia blanked Sparks 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Porcello won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Kilpatrick defeated Logan 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5, and Rogers beat Moore 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
Several players contributed to the victory, including Theresa Emelio, a sophomore standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, Josie Tullos at 5-5, Heidi Clayton at 5-9, Caroline Kilpatrick at 5-4, Katlin Porcello at 5-5, Emily Rogers at 5-2, and Camila Piquín at 5-6.
