Jones College Men’s Tennis Tops Hinds 8-1 in Non-Conference Match

RAYMOND, Miss. — Jones College’s men’s tennis team defeated Hinds Community College 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the Cleon McKnight Tennis Center. The Bobcats, ranked No. 13 nationally, moved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.

Jones secured two of three doubles matches, with Felipe Morales of Ecuador and Reese Touchet of Northeast Jones winning 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Ridge Jones of Northeast Jones and Ryan Roth of Resurrection Catholic blanked Henry Slayton and Bryan Roldan 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Tom Garrett and Juan Francisco Pereyra lost 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, Pereyra defeated de Haro 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1. Garrett outlasted Socias 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 2. Morales topped Lopez 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3. Jones shut out Slayton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Westmoreland blanked Hayes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Cockrell defeated Roldan 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. An additional match saw Nicholas Marengo beat Levi Elkins 7-5.

The Bobcats are scheduled to play at Belhaven and Millsaps on Friday before returning for a key conference match against No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
