Jones College Clinches MACCC Title with Win Over Copiah-Lincoln

Wesson, Miss. — The Jones College Bobcats, ranked No. 12 nationally, claimed the MACCC tennis title with a 7-2 win over No. 16 Copiah-Lincoln on Friday at the C-L Tennis Complex.

Jones, now 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference, will host the Region 23 Tournament from April 16-18. The Bobcats are scheduled to face No. 11 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Monday and conclude league play with a 2 p.m. match Tuesday at Itawamba.

The Wolves, now 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the MACCC, fell to Jones in doubles play but won one singles match. Jones captured two of three doubles matches, with Ridge Jones and Felipe Morales winning No. 2 doubles 8-6, and Ryan Roth and Reese Touchet taking No. 3 doubles 8-2. Tom Garrett and Juan Francisco Pereyra lost No. 1 doubles 8-4.

Pereyra bounced back in singles, defeating Gurgenidze 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Garrett topped Tozer 6-3, 6-4, while Roth defeated Mason Brand 7-5, 6-3. Luke Westmoreland won No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-1. Morales lost to Bucek 6-2, 0-6, 1-6. In additional matches, Crews Cockrell beat Warren Lucio 8-3, and Nicholas Marengo was defeated by Breland 8-5.

Jones will use its momentum heading into the postseason, with upcoming matches against conference rivals and the regional tournament on the horizon.
