Jones College Bobcats open season with 8-1 tennis win over Bevill State

The Jones College Bobcats started the 2026 tennis season with an 8-1 win over Bevill State on Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in Ellisville.

The Bobcats swept the doubles matches to open the meet. Tom Garrett and Juan Francisco Pereyra defeated Illian Delalande and Mijael Obregon Herrejon, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles. Felipe Morales and Reese Touchet beat Sam Barclift and Luke Gardiner, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles. Ryan Roth and Ridge Jones edged Reggie Henson and Braden Henderson, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Garrett topped Max Knauer, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 1. Pereyra defeated Delalande, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 2. Morales rallied to beat Gardiner, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 3. Touchet lost to Max Osterberg, 0-6, 5-7, in No. 4. Jones defeated Barclift, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 5. Luke Westmoreland defeated Henson, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 6.

Additional matches included Roth rallying past Justin Gray, 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9), and Nicholas Marengo of Forrest County AHS winning over Griffin Nixon, 6-0, 6-1. Crews Cockrell of West Jones fell 5-8 to Henderson.

The Bobcats are scheduled for a scrimmage at Mississippi College on Feb. 6 and will face Oxford-Emory of Georgia in Meridian on Feb. 14, according to team sources.
