Jones College advances to NJCAA women’s tennis semifinals with 5-0 win over Meridian

ELLISVILLE — Jones College defeated Meridian 5-0 in a match that lasted just over an hour to advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Women’s Tennis Championship semifinals Friday morning.

The Bobcats will face the winner of the Hinds and Northwest match in the semifinals, scheduled for later this week.

Jones secured the victory with strong performances in doubles and singles. Heidi Clayton and Theresa Emelio won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Maria Martinez and Camila Piquín took an 8-1 win at No. 2 and Katlin Porcello and Josie Tullos finished with an 8-3 victory at No. 3. These wins gave Jones a 3-0 lead.

In singles play, Emelio defeated Aleah McMullan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Tullos won 6-0, 6-0 over Michaela Mayerhoff, ending the match. All other singles matches were unfinished.

Jones is aiming for its sixth straight region title and an automatic bid to the national tournament in Sumter, South Carolina.
