Jones and Co-Lin Split MACCC Doubleheader at The Bank
ELLISVILLE — Sixth-ranked Jones College and fifth-ranked Copiah-Lincoln split a MACCC doubleheader Tuesday at Community Bank Park, adding another chapter to their closely contested rivalry. The series now stands at 16–14 in favor of Co-Lin over the last 30 meetings.
In the opener, Madison Sawyer pitched a complete game to lead Jones to a 5-3 victory. Sawyer improved to 15–1 this season, scattering three hits, striking out 10, and allowing two home runs. Jones scored early and built a lead with a four-run fourth inning after trailing 2–1. Claire Andersen and Annaston Tate drove in runs during that rally, and Jones outhit Co-Lin 7–3. Addison Lindley took the loss for Co-Lin, allowing four runs in 3.1 innings.
The nightcap saw Co-Lin rally late for a 9–6 win, using a strong start and power hitting to salvage the split. The Lady Wolves scored five unearned runs in the second and third innings, capitalizing on Jones errors. Brelie Phillips led the way for Co-Lin with three hits, including two home runs and four RBIs. Phillips’ home runs in the fourth and fifth innings pushed the lead to 9–1.
Jones fought back with four solo home runs, including two by Eason, and scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh. Despite out-hitting Co-Lin 11–9, the Bobcats couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Breelyn Cain took the loss for Jones, allowing four runs, with only four earned. Abigail Lindsey pitched well in relief, allowing one hit and striking out four over the final two innings. Marlee Dampeer went 3-for-3 with an RBI-double for Co-Lin.
Jones will travel to Coahoma on Thursday before returning home Saturday to host East Mississippi at 1 p.m., according to team schedules and sources.
