Jackson State Women Beat Prairie View A&M 63-59 Behind Wilkinson’s 19 Points

Prairie View, Texas — The Jackson State women’s basketball team extended its winning streak with a 63-59 road victory over Prairie View A&M Thursday night. The Tigers improved to 10-17 overall and 8-7 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Panthers fell to 2-25 and 0-16 in league play.

Angel Wilkinson led Jackson State with 19 points, while Mikayla Brown posted an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double. Jaileyah Cotton added 12 points in the contest. Prairie View was led by CJ Wilson with 20 points, and Chrystal Schultz scored 16. Alana Shields finished with 12 points, and Wilson and Laila Robinson each grabbed seven rebounds.

The game was tightly contested. Jackson State opened the scoring with a jumper from Jada Patton, but Prairie View responded with a fast-break layup from Wilson to tie it at 7. The Panthers took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter. Jackson State tied the game at 28 before halftime and led 44-41 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Jackson State pulled ahead with key baskets from Cotton, Tchehchoua, and Wilkinson, creating a 49-41 lead with 8:27 remaining. Prairie View threatened to close the gap, bringing the game within one with 4:16 left. However, Jackson State maintained its advantage and secured the win.

The Tigers shot 36.2% from the field and 66.7% from the free-throw line. They scored 30 points in the paint and 20 points off 17 turnovers. Prairie View shot 43.1% from the field and 64.6% from the free-throw line, with 26 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers.
