Jackson State wins series with 13-12 victory at Seattle

Jackson State scored multiple runs in five innings and finished with 18 hits to hold off a late Seattle rally and win the series Saturday night at Bannerwood Park.

The Tigers (9-7) took an early lead with three runs in the third inning, followed by additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings. They added two more in the seventh and eighth innings, using eight extra-base hits to build a commanding lead before Seattle made a late push.

Isaac McClenty led Jackson State at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Pierre Cabral finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including a home run. Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI, with two doubles. Hederick Torres also had a strong game, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a double. Robert Tate Jr. added two hits in the win.

Kevin De Los Santos (1-1) earned the win in relief, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit. Derek Arrocha, who pitched for the second consecutive day, recorded his first save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Seattle mounted a rally in the late innings, scoring five runs in the eighth to trim the deficit to one. Jared Stevenson and Kasey Rhein contributed RBIs in the bottom half, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

The two teams will meet again Sunday at T-Mobile Park for the series finale, according to Jackson State Athletics.
