Jackson State Hosts Prairie View A&M in SWAC Baseball Series

Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State hosts Prairie View A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series starting Friday night. All games will be streamed on SWAC TV.

Jackson State (10-12, 1-2 SWAC) aims to rebound after an eight-game road swing, which included a game against Mississippi State. The Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 games. Prairie View A&M (4-15, 0-3 SWAC) has lost 15 of its last 18 contests.

The series marks just the seventh home game for Jackson State this season, but the team will host four consecutive games beginning this weekend. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday at 3 p.m., and the series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats and tickets are available, and game notes are posted online.

Jackson State wrapped up its road trip with a game against Mississippi State in Starkville on Tuesday, covering a 6,932-mile round trip. Coach Omar Johnson also participated in USA Baseball’s 2025 Collegiate National Team Training Camp, leading a staff split into two teams during the Stars vs. Stripes series in North Carolina. Following training camp, Johnson helped lead Team USA at the 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series in Japan.

Wilbert Perez, a preseason first-team All-Conference selection, missed the first 19 games but returned against Texas Southern. Tyree Reed leads the team with a .397 batting average through 22 games, including a 12-game hitting streak. Junior shortstop Diego Melendez is on the Brooks Wallace Award watch list for top college shortstops in the country.

Jackson State’s coach Omar Johnson reached his 600th career victory with a win over Mississippi Valley State and now has 605 wins at Jackson State, trailing Robert “Bob” Braddy’s 823 wins. The Tigers, who have faced two ranked teams this season, are looking to secure their first conference series win after losing their opener against Texas Southern.
