Jackson State Falls to Seattle in Series Finale at T-Mobile Park

Seattle — Jackson State’s comeback fell just short Sunday as the Tigers dropped a 6-4 decision to Seattle in the final game of a three-game series at T-Mobile Park.

The Tigers (9-8) trailed 6-1 before mounting a rally in the eighth inning. Payton Boines hit his first home run of the season, and Tyree Reed and Pierre Cabral added doubles, trimming the deficit to two runs.

Jackson State threatened in the ninth, putting two runners on with one out, but could not complete the rally. Despite the loss, the Tigers secured the series with wins on Friday and Saturday, according to team sources.

Reed finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, both hits doubles. Boines also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jayden Lopez took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on four hits with four strikeouts, per the team.

Seattle scored first in the bottom of the first inning, with Sebastian Lopez’s sacrifice fly driving in the first run. The Tigers responded in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Hederick Torres and an unearned run scored by Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. The Mariners extended their lead with a home run from Lopez in the fifth and a double by Kenneth Rhein in the seventh, which brought in two runs. Jackson State’s Boines homered in the eighth, but it was not enough to overcome the Mariners’ lead.

Jackson State remains on the road Tuesday to face Nicholls. The team continues its season as it seeks to build on its early success.
