Jackson State Falls to Mississippi Valley State in Regular Season Finale
Jackson, Miss. — The Jackson State women’s basketball team lost 66-50 to Mississippi Valley State in its regular-season finale Thursday at home. Despite holding the Delta Devilettes to just 16.7 percent shooting from three-point range, the Tigers couldn’t overcome scoring struggles.
Jada Patton led Jackson State with 16 points and six rebounds. Angel Wilkinson added 10 points, and Jaileyah Cotton contributed five points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua grabbed seven offensive rebounds, helping Jackson State generate 11 second-chance points and 20 offensive boards overall. The Tigers also blocked five shots, with Tcheuhchoua recording one rejection.
The game was tightly contested early, with Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State tied at 12-12 after the first quarter. The Tigers relied on perimeter shooting, knocking down two three-pointers in the period. The Delta Devilettes led 19-16 before Jackson State responded with a 5-0 run, including a Patton basket, to go ahead 21-19. The teams went into halftime with Jackson State holding a 24-23 advantage.
Jackson State struggled offensively in the third quarter, trailing 45-34 entering the final period. The bench helped cut the deficit temporarily, with non-starters scoring four of the team’s 10 third-quarter points. In the fourth, Mississippi Valley State widened its lead to 53-40 before the Tigers mounted a brief rally, highlighted by Patton’s three-pointer, to reduce the deficit to 53-45 with just over five minutes remaining.
The Delta Devilettes responded and pulled away, finishing with a 66-50 victory. Jackson State’s bench added 21 points in the game, and the team’s active defense forced five blocks and caused shot disruptions. The Tigers also excelled on the offensive glass, securing 20 offensive rebounds.
