Jackson State Falls to Bethune-Cookman 13-2 in SWAC Series
Jackson State dropped the second game of its Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Bethune-Cookman 13-2 Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. The Tigers, now 13-15 overall and 4-4 in SWAC play, collected eight hits in the loss.
Robert Tate Jr. led Jackson State at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a sacrifice hit. Tyree Reed added two hits in four at-bats, while Wilbert Perez drew two walks and scored a run. Starting pitcher Derek Arrocha took the loss, working five innings and allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Bethune-Cookman opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Darryl Lee and a sacrifice fly by Maikol Lucena. The Wildcats extended their lead in the second inning with a pair of unearned runs, including an RBI single from Almonte. The Wildcats continued to build their lead with multiple runs in the third, sixth, and seventh innings, highlighted by Michael Rodriguez’s two-RBI single in the third and Sergio Rivera’s two-run single in the sixth.
The series concludes Sunday with the final game scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Time, which will be broadcast on SWAC TV. Jackson State will look to rebound in the finale to split the series.
