Hinds Men’s Basketball Wins in Overtime, Advances to Region 23 Semifinals
PERKINSTON, Miss. — The Hinds Community College men’s basketball team earned a 104-101 overtime victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Saturday at Dantzler Arena. The win sends the Bulldogs to the Region 23 Tournament semifinals.
Sophomore guard Daveon Henry led the Bulldogs with a season-high 43 points, shooting 14-of-26 from the field, including three three-pointers. He also made 12 free throws, and contributed five assists and five steals in 39 minutes of play, according to school officials.
Hinds trailed 40-36 at halftime but rallied in the second half to force overtime, tied at 90-90. The Bulldogs outscored MGCCC 14-11 in the extra period to secure the victory.
Several players made key contributions for Hinds. Abubakar Cham scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Austin Ratliff posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Terrance Clark added 12 points off the bench, and Andre Stewart scored 10 points, including three three-pointers, to provide additional spark.
With the win, Hinds advances to face top seed Itawamba Community College in Fulton on Tuesday, March 10, at 6 p.m., in the semifinals. Follow Hinds Athletics on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for updates.
