Georgia State edges Southern Miss 69-62 after second-half rally
Georgia State (8-12, 5-3 Sun Belt) rallied from an 11-point deficit in the first half to beat Southern Miss (11-10, 5-4 Sun Belt) 69-62 Thursday night at the GSU Convocation Center.
The Panthers trailed early but responded with an 8-0 run, sparked by a pair of three-pointers from Curt Lewis. Southern Miss led 32-30 at halftime but struggled offensively in the second half, managing only 30 points.
Georgia State opened the second half on an 8-1 run and eventually pulled ahead by as many as 12 points. Southern Miss cut the deficit to five with under 12 minutes remaining but could not complete the comeback. The Panthers outshot the Golden Eagles from the free-throw line, making 11 more free throws in the second half.
Four players scored in double figures for Georgia State, including Malachi Brown, who hit a crucial three-pointer in the final minutes. Dylan Brumfield led Southern Miss with 13 points, while Tylik Weeks added 10 for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss, which has now lost three straight games, will conclude its four-game road trip at Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
