Georgia beats Mississippi State 102-96 on Senior Day

Mississippi State fell to Georgia 102-96 in a men’s basketball game Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs played their final home game of the season on Senior Day.

Mississippi State led 47-42 at halftime after shooting 73.1 percent from the field in the first half. However, Georgia took control early in the second half, pulling ahead 56-53 with 15:06 remaining. The Bulldogs maintained a single-digit deficit until Georgia extended its lead to 81-71 with 6:44 left.

MSU rallied late, with Josh Hubbard scoring 42 points, his second career 40-plus-point game. Hubbard also contributed five rebounds and four assists. Ja’Borri McGhee added 20 off the bench for the Bulldogs. Despite the effort, Georgia managed the late-game free-throw advantage to secure the victory.

Mississippi State, now 13-18 overall and 5-13 in SEC play, will travel to Nashville next week to begin postseason play at the SEC Tournament. The opponent, date, and time will be announced after Saturday’s SEC action.

Georgia finished with a 22-9 record and a 10-8 SEC mark. The Bulldogs shot 58.6 percent from three-point range compared to Mississippi State’s 39.1 percent. Both teams committed 16 turnovers, but Georgia out-rebounded MSU 31-30.
