Gadsden State Sweeps Northwest Mississippi in Doubleheader

Gadsden, Ala. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College softball team suffered a pair of losses against Gadsden State Community College on Tuesday. The Rangers, now 6-6, fell 5-3 in the first game and 5-0 in the second.

In the opener, unearned runs proved costly for Northwest. After a scoreless first inning, Gadsden State scored four unearned runs in the second, capitalizing on errors and mishandled fly balls. The Rangers responded with a run in the fifth inning and added two more in the sixth and seventh, but could not catch up. Catelyn Brown pitched six innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out two. The team collected 10 hits but left seven runners on base.

The second game was dominated by defensive struggles for both teams early on, with neither side scoring through the first two innings. Gadsden State broke through in the third with an RBI single and added more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, aided by walks and singles. The Cardinals finished with five runs on 11 hits. Meredith Dearman pitched six innings, giving up five runs, three earned, with four strikeouts and four walks.

Northwest is scheduled to return home for a doubleheader against Calhoun Community College on Wednesday at the Ranger Softball Complex. The team will also face Gadsden State again Thursday and open MACCC play Friday against Jones College, ranked third nationally.
