Former Ole Miss Forward Jamarion Sharp Named NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year

FRISCO, Texas — Jamarion Sharp, a former Ole Miss men’s basketball forward, has been named the 2025-26 Kia NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year, the league announced Thursday.

In his second season with the Texas Legends, Sharp appeared in 25 games, averaging 7.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game. He also shot 73.5% from the field, the highest percentage in the league. Sharp helped anchor a Texas Legends defense that led the league in blocks per game at 7.3 and finished with a top-10 defensive rating, according to league officials.

During his time at Ole Miss in the 2023-24 season, Sharp established himself as one of the SEC’s top defenders. He played in 31 games, finishing with 75 blocks, the most in the conference that season and the third most in school history. In December 2023, he became the 14th NCAA athlete to record 300 career blocks in three years or less.

Sharp set a school record with nine blocks in a game against Florida and helped Ole Miss tie the SEC record for most blocks in a conference game with 16. At graduation, he ranked 21st in NCAA history with a career average of 3.73 blocks per game and 53rd in total blocks with 354, according to Ole Miss athletics.
