Florida A&M Edges Alcorn State in Close Battle in Tallahassee
Florida A&M defeated Alcorn State 66-58 Friday night at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee. The game featured multiple lead changes and a competitive first half before the Rattlers pulled away in the final minutes.
The Braves set the tone early, attacking the paint and playing with pace on both ends. They shot 56% from the field in the first half and took a 30-29 lead into halftime. Strong defensive pressure caused turnovers and created transition opportunities, helping Alcorn control parts of the opening period despite the hostile road environment.
Tycen McDaniels led Alcorn with 20 points and nine rebounds, shooting 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. His activity around the rim and ability to draw contact kept the Braves within reach throughout the night. Jameel Morris scored 14 points and added four assists, while Davian Williams contributed 11 points and multiple steals, providing energy on both ends.
In the second half, Florida A&M increased its defensive intensity and capitalized on second-chance opportunities. The Rattlers outscored Alcorn 37-28 after halftime, using timely three-pointers and strong bench play to build separation in the final eight minutes. Despite the Braves’ efforts at the free-throw line and in the paint, missed perimeter shots and key rebounds shifted momentum late.
Alcorn State forced 19 turnovers but couldn’t overcome the Rattlers’ efficiency down the stretch. The Braves showed resilience and continued to develop as they prepare for their next game against Southern on Saturday at The Reservation. The team aims to carry lessons learned from the road into SWAC play.
