Five William Carey University student-athletes have earned weekly honors from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the league announced. The awards recognize performances from Feb. 8-15.

Softball players Addison Owen and Trinity Garvin received honors for their contributions during the week. Owen, a junior from Pontotoc, Mississippi, helped lead the Owls to a 4-0 record at their home Invitational. She went 9-for-14 at the plate, with a .643 batting average, and drove in five runs. Owen also scored four runs and was errorless in 17 chances at second base. She successfully stole two bases in two attempts.

Garvin, a freshman right-handed pitcher from Olive Branch, Mississippi, made her collegiate debut with a pair of scoreless appearances. She pitched 7.1 innings, including 1.2 innings of relief to earn a save against Covenant and a 5.2-inning start against Sewanee, allowing just one unearned run. Garvin also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk in the Sewanee game.

On the baseball diamond, Chase Marshall and Campbell McCluney helped the Owls start the season 2-1 at the Huntingdon Tournament. Marshall, a junior from Moody, Alabama, batted .556 with a .714 on-base percentage. He drew two walks, was hit twice by pitches, and scored three runs while playing errorless defense at second base.

McCluney, a senior from Chelsea, Alabama, pitched six innings in the season opener against North Carolina Wesleyan University, allowing only two hits and two runs. He struck out 11 batters, the second-most in a game by an Owls pitcher in program history, as NCWU hit just .111 against him.

Women’s track and field athlete Arie’Onna McCollum earned honors after recording the fifth-best shot put mark in the SLIAC this season. Her toss of 10.18 meters came during the Owls’ final tune-up before the indoor championship meet scheduled for Feb. 27-28 in Elsah, Illinois.
