Emma Jennings Sets Record as Northwest Mississippi Softball’s Career Leader in Games Played
Senatobia, Miss. — Emma Jennings of Mantee, Mississippi, has become the career leader in games played for Northwest Mississippi Community College softball. After two seasons and 105 appearances, Jennings surpassed previous record-holder Sage Kockza, who set the mark in 2022, according to team sources.
Jennings, a sophomore, credits her longevity to her competitiveness and willingness to adapt. “I stayed competitive,” she said. “I competed for spots and pushed myself to be on the field.” Originally signed as an outfielder, Jennings was later moved to shortstop, a position she played in high school, to fill team needs.
Her early season performance was marked by a 12-game hitting streak, and she batted over .400 by March. Coaches moved her to center field during conference play, a position she has maintained since. Jennings described the transition as a turning point in her freshman year, which culminated with a trip to the NCAA Division I World Series, where the team finished 2-2.
Her second year proved challenging as the team faced roster turnover, with eight players leaving. Jennings stepped into a leadership role, helping new players adjust and maintain team morale. “We had a lot of things happen, but we stayed positive,” she said. “We fought through it and kept fighting.”
The team made history by earning back-to-back trips to the World Series, a first for Northwest Mississippi. Jennings participated in all but one game during her two seasons, leaving a lasting impact. Reflecting on her experience, she emphasized the bonds formed with teammates. “The friendships are the most special thing to me,” Jennings said. “It’s more than softball. I love laughing with my friends and sharing these memories.”
Though she plans to focus on her academic future, Jennings will carry her softball memories with her. Her contributions have helped define a successful era for the program, and her record-setting career will be remembered in Northwest Mississippi athletics history.
