Delta State Women’s Basketball Dominates Christian Brothers 71-35

The Delta State University women’s basketball team opened the second half of the Gulf South Conference season with a 71-35 victory over Christian Brothers on Thursday night at Canale Arena in Memphis.

The Lady Statesmen set the tone early, forcing turnovers and scoring efficiently in the paint to lead 23-7 after the first quarter. They never trailed and extended the lead to 39-13 by halftime behind balanced scoring and aggressive defense.

Delta State shot 47% from the field while holding Christian Brothers to 22.4%. The Lady Statesmen dominated inside, outscoring the Buccaneers 46-10 in the paint and forcing 19 turnovers that resulted in 17 points.

Jariyah Williamson led Delta State with 14 points and four assists. Bramyia Johnson scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Alyse Holliman added 11 points and six rebounds, and JNyria Kelly contributed eight points and three rebounds in limited minutes. The bench produced 30 points, highlighting Delta State’s depth.

The Lady Statesmen maintained control in the second half, outscoring Christian Brothers 17-16 in the third quarter and 15-6 in the final frame. They also held advantages in fast-break points (14-0) and second-chance scoring (17-10). With the win, Delta State improves to 1-0 overall and in conference play. The team will continue its road trip with a game against Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.
