Delta State Men’s Tennis Starts Season 2-0 with Doubleheader Wins

The Delta State University men’s tennis team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep Thursday at the UTD Tennis Complex in Richardson, Texas.

The Statesmen defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 4-0 and then topped UT Dallas 5-2. With the wins, Delta State improved to 2-0 for the season.

Delta State opened the day with a convincing 4-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. The team secured the doubles point with wins from Juan Diego Alzate and Alejandro Bravo at No. 1 doubles, and Valentin Greco and Simon Ojeda at No. 2 doubles. Southeastern Oklahoma claimed the No. 3 doubles match, but Delta State’s momentum carried into singles play, where Alzate and Greco each earned key victories.

Alzate won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, while Greco secured a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Bravo sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, completing the shutout.

In the nightcap, Delta State swept all three doubles matches to take an early lead. Greco and Ojeda won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentino Millimaci matched that score at No. 2. Joaquin Jarochevsky and Taylor Parker finished the sweep with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The team carried that momentum into singles play, earning four straight-set victories. Greco dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Cerda Castillo followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Bravo remained perfect on the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Millimaci completed a flawless performance with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. UT Dallas won matches at the top two singles positions, but Delta State’s depth proved decisive.

Delta State will play again Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Western New Mexico University at the UTD Tennis Complex.
