Delta State Hosts Arkansas-Monticello Baseball Tuesday Afternoon
The Delta State University Statesmen baseball team will host the University of Arkansas-Monticello Weevils on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Ferriss Field. The non-conference game is in-region and will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network and FloCollege Network, with Michael Gross calling the action.
The Statesmen enter the game with a 5-2 record and are 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play. They are coming off a weekend sweep of No. 17 Lee University, winning two of three games after overcoming deficits in multiple contests. Austin Estes leads the team with a .458 batting average, collecting 11 hits, a double, a stolen base, three RBIs, and 10 runs scored. He went 5-for-11 in the Lee series, driving in three runs and scoring three.
Jacob Hill is the team leader in RBIs with nine and is batting .346 with nine hits, a double, a homer, three stolen bases, and eight runs scored. On the mound, Adrian Byrd has been effective, posting a 3.00 ERA over 12 innings with 19 strikeouts, four earned runs, and four walks. Junior Dawson Muenzenmay earned a win and a save last week, including a game-winning RBI in an extra-inning victory against Lee.
The Weevils hold a 3-4 record and are coming off a weekend conference series against Southern Nazarene University. Elijah Olaybal leads Arkansas-Monticello with a .360 batting average, nine hits, and six RBIs. Daniel Lizzarraga has three stolen bases, seven hits, and six runs scored. Hunter Heath has a 1.00 ERA over nine innings, with eight hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.
