Delta State Baseball Sweeps No. 17 Lee in Dramatic Doubleheader

Delta State University baseball secured a sweep of No. 17 Lee University on Saturday, winning 9-3 in the first game and 9-8 in the nightcap at Larry Carpenter Stadium. The victories leave the Statesmen undefeated in Gulf South Conference play, with a 3-0 record and an overall mark of 5-2, according to team sources.

In the opener, Delta State broke a tight game with a three-run fifth inning and added four more runs in the sixth. The team finished with 13 hits, led by multi-hit performances from Jacob Hill, Levi Lang, Walker Maranto, Stone Collier, and Austin Estes. Lang provided a key moment with a three-run double in the sixth, while Estes went 3-for-3 and drove in a run. On the mound, Blake King earned the win after allowing three runs over 5.1 innings. Aidan McCrady pitched the final 3.2 innings without surrendering a run to secure the victory.

The second game featured late-inning drama as Delta State erased an eighth-inning deficit. The Statesmen surged ahead with a five-run sixth inning, only to see Lee respond with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 lead. Delta State responded in the seventh, tying the game on a hit-by-pitch before Jacob Hill delivered the go-ahead RBI single. Dawson Muenzenmay closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save, and Alex McHale picked up the relief win. Estes led the offense with two RBIs, and contributions from Hill, Tucker Jones, and Brady Hendrix helped fuel the comeback for the 9-8 victory.

Delta State is scheduled to host Arkansas at Monticello in a non-conference game Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field, according to team officials.
