Delta State Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Montevallo

Delta State University baseball split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Montevallo on Friday at Ferriss Field. The Falcons won the first game 13-8, while the Statesmen responded with a 12-8 victory in the second game.

In the opener, Montevallo took an early lead and never trailed. The Falcons scored seven runs in the first three innings and added a three-run ninth to secure the win. Ian Cartwright led Montevallo with a four-hit effort and five RBIs, including a leadoff home run in the first inning. Montevallo finished with 17 hits. Delta State cut the deficit to 7-6 in the sixth after Cooper Walls and Landon Holliman homered, but Montevallo responded late to seal the win. Tucker Jones doubled twice and scored twice, and Austin Estes hit a three-run homer in the second inning.

In the second game, Delta State scored 10 runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take control. The Statesmen had 11 hits and drew eight walks without committing an error. Montevallo led 4-2 early after home runs by Hollon Brock and Hudson Allen, but Delta State responded with a five-run fourth inning. Levi Lang’s RBI single and Drew Prosek’s two-run double highlighted the frame. The Statesmen extended their lead in the fifth, with Henley Parker homering, Lang drawing a bases-loaded walk, and Prosek knocking in two more runs. Delta State added three runs in the sixth, including Walls’ solo homer and a steal of home by Parker. Ryan Herbison earned the win in relief, allowing two runs over 2.1 innings, while Dawson Muenzenmay closed the final frame. Prosek led the offense with four RBIs, and Lang drove in three.

Delta State will return to action Tuesday at Ferriss Field, hosting Arkansas Monticello in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. Central Time.
