Delta State Baseball Opens 2026 Season on the Road Against Spring Hill

The Delta State University Statesmen baseball team will kick off its 2026 season with a series against Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, after a one-week delay caused by winter storms, according to team officials.

The series features one game Friday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Historic Sims-Galle Field. The teams are non-conference opponents, with Spring Hill currently 0-4 and the Statesmen looking to build on last season’s success, which included an NCAA South Region appearance and a Gulf South Conference regular-season title.

Delta State was projected to finish second in the Gulf South Conference this season, with notable newcomers Mason Shropshire and Cade Greer expected to make an immediate impact. Shropshire transferred from UT Martin, where he posted a 3-2 record with 26 strikeouts in 2025. Greer joins from the University of Memphis, bringing a .284 batting average and nine doubles last season. Cael Allen, a native of Collierville, Tennessee, is also among the newcomers, recognized for his high school achievements.

The team also features returning players such as Jacob Hill, Bo Rock, and Aidan McCrady. Hill, a senior from Byhalia, Mississippi, played 32 games last season, batting .273 with 13 stolen bases. Rock appeared in 28 games with a .274 average and a grand slam against Valdosta State. McCrady, a freshman, made 11 appearances, including a start in the NCAA Regional, and recorded 17 strikeouts.

Spring Hill is currently 0-4 after being swept by Florida Tech last weekend. The Badgers are ranked third in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Their top hitter, Alex Roux, boasts a .467 batting average through 15 at-bats, with a double, triple, and home run. The team’s weekend starters each threw four innings in their opening series, with performances allowing multiple runs.

Spring Hill scored a season-high nine runs against Florida Tech but fell 4-2 to Gulf South Conference member Alabama-Huntsville on Tuesday. The Badgers aim to improve as they continue their early-season schedule.
